Russia appreciated Lukashenka’s words about the timing of the start of peace talks on Ukraine

The current situation on the line of contact, as well as the state of affairs in Western countries, leads to the fact that peace talks on Ukraine will be held in the very near future, – said Alexei Chepa, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs.

Thus, he commented to Lente.ru on the words of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko about the possibility of holding peace talks this fall.

“I agree with Alexander Grigorievich [Лукашенко]the situation is moving towards this (peace talks — approx. “Tapes.ru”). It is clear that we have always been ready for peace negotiations: a special military operation would not have started if the negotiations had taken place in 2021 or earlier,” the deputy said.

At the same time, according to the parliamentarian, it is pointless to count on negotiations with Ukraine. Chepa explained that the talks needed “the attitudes of the West, primarily the United States.”

Earlier, Lukashenka said that peace talks to resolve the military conflict in Ukraine could begin in the autumn. The assumption of the Belarusian leader is connected with the fact that, according to him, the military conflict bears the most material costs on the Europeans.

“Maybe. Maybe not in September, a little later. I do not want to give out any information, but the Europeans are already talking about it. France, Germany,” said the President of Belarus, speaking about the possible timing of peace talks on hzikhidtidekrt Ukraine.

Prior to this, Lukashenka said that he could become a mediator in the negotiations if Moscow and Kyiv wanted it. According to him, Russia, Ukraine and Belarus “are in the same boat.”
